This morning began with a bittersweet gathering on the rooftop—our last time together for morning prayer and reflection. While many of us are running on low sleep and high emotion, our hearts have been deeply changed.
After breakfast, we made our way to a nearby migrant camp. There, we spent time with the children—playing games, sharing the story of Zaccheus, creating crafts, and serving snacks. Their smiles of gratitude were a reminder of just how powerful presence and love can be. Before leaving, we handed out the food hampers we had prepared earlier in the week and supported the families by purchasing some of their beautiful handmade bracelets.
We regrouped at El Refugio for lunch and jumped straight into prepping for our final outreach event—an evening full of activities, crafts, games, a meal, and a devotional message. We weren’t sure what to expect—maybe around 50 guests—but as the evening began, people just kept coming. Randy counted over 150 people (not including our team or the girls from El Refugio)!
And yet, God provided.
Just when we were wondering how the food would stretch, Sandy discovered a big bag of tortilla chips tucked away in the van and we happened to have an extra fully-prepared spaghetti meal with us that had been forgotten at a previous event. It was exactly what we needed—more than enough to feed everyone. It was one of those undeniable “loaves and fishes” moments that we’ll never forget!
We finally returned to El Refugio around 9:30 p.m.—exhausted, emotional, but deeply fulfilled. We ended the night with pizza, laughter, and heartfelt goodbyes, knowing that tomorrow morning will come far too soon.
This day was a beautiful collision of planning, spontaneity, and divine intervention. God showed up—in us, around us, and through the community that welcomed us so warmly.
Good-bye Ensenada; good-bye El Refugio…till next time :)
